Dahlias still available for a few days,
Busy Busy Busy, I'm going to send out a newsletter after all.
Of course, to tell you that you can order the summer flowering flower bulbs until next Wednesday, May 11.
I won't make it too long because everything is blooming outside and I don't have the time (read: no desire) to write about Dahlias .
For me, spring is by far the busiest time of the year. A lot of work checking and selecting my Daffodils and all the new Daffodil seedlings. And of course visiting as many growers, show gardens and Keukenhof as possible to select the most beautiful varieties for you that I can offer in the Fluwel webshop. A really busy time, but also a beautiful time, actually the most beautiful time of the year. The hustle and bustle doesn't matter, because it is also the time of the year that you have the most energy, at least I do.
Narcissus Double Sunrise
Around 6 o'clock out of bed, make coffee and go upstairs to the computer with the silent hope that there are not too many emails that need to be answered. When the flour box is empty quickly outside to... oh no, yesterday bought a new Tulip that first needs to be put on the site.
Sjips, it's already 9 o'clock, quickly go outside I have to go to Jan Hein to see if we have enough Mary Poppins for White Flower Farm and oh yes, also check if we have enough Besame Mucho for Colorblends.
Around noon I'm in the car to visit growers to see what new things they have to offer and whether there's anything interesting for us. But in the meantime I'm hungry so I stop at the fishmonger in Julianadorp. Should I do it, yes no yes no, well yes, why not I'll have a glass of wine and sit down to write the newsletter, that has to be done too, the readers like that. So there I am now, a real moment to frame. I like flower bulbs but I also like a herring, a mackerel sandwich and a glass of white wine. And when I start writing there on that square in Julianadorp in the sun with the music of Bruce Springsteen and Willie Nelson in the background I'm often done writing the newsletter.
Tulip Janis Joplin
So also this time. The pictures you see are all pictures of what I have seen the past few days, what a hard life I have ;-)
Tulip Password
Just back home, a nice story about a little Tulip that I came across today while hunting. An exciting Tulip for in the flower box or at the front of the border. Subtle white edge along its silver-blue leaves, a beautiful green flame on its flower when the bud starts to color and during flowering an exciting color gradient from white to pink from a soft yellow base, simply beautiful and each bulb also produces multiple flowers. But the nice thing about this Tulip was that the grower who showed it to me could not remember the name of this Tulip when he showed it to me. He had to call his son for the name: "What is the name of that Tulip Bart, that beautiful little thing there at the Kromme Tocht in that flower box?" You always forget everything too Dad, you can't even remember your Password. Yes Yes that's not too bad, but what is the name of that Tulip. And that was the nice thing, Bart had already given the answer, the Tulip is called Password.
I won't say that the grower's name is Theo, otherwise people will think he is becoming forgetful.
Tulip Silvercloud
The Tulip Password batch is not yet big enough to offer it in the Fluwel webshop this year, but in 2023 Theo will let me sell a few. “Password”… make sure you remember Password.
Tulip La Perla
And… I now finally know why, you know, a field of tulips suddenly turns so beautifully colored:
It's that guy who works at Edwin de Jong's painting company in Zwaag, the loser.
Kind regards,
Carlos van der Veek
Once again the housekeeping announcement.
The summer bloomers are available until Wednesday, May 11.
Then the shop will close for a while to take a good look at all the spring bloomers and arrange them neatly, so that, yay-yay, on Sunday 15 May we can start selling the Daffodils , Tulips , Alliums and all those other beautiful things.
